Remembering the days of Shroff’s debut Subhash Ghai said that, “he was a great student, that’s how he became a great actor’.
The ocassion was of the Grand Re-premiere of Subhash Ghai, and Jackie Shroff’s first movie together 1983’s film ‘Hero on Sunday. While interaction with media Ghai said Ghai talked about working with Jackie he said, he was a great student, that’s how he became a great actor.
In 1983, Shroff made his acting debut in Dev Anand’s movie Swami Dada. In 1983, Subhash Ghai cast him in lead role for the movie Hero, paired against Meenakshi Seshadri. The film was a success. He continued to work in Subhash Ghai movies, irrespective of any role that was offered. After Hero, he did several other films, amongst which Andar Baahar. Jaanoo and Yudh were successful. In 1986 he did Karma which became the highest-grossing film of 1986.
When asked about the veteran actor Shroff and how he was in the beginning of his career when they were shooting for ‘Hero’ Ghai said, “Jackie Shroff was a newcomer and a nonactor back then. He didn’t even know A of acting, but he was a great student. He learned everything there was to learn about acting. With all that hard work he has become a great actor now and his son is becoming one too.”
Director, producer Subhash also revealed that he has been approached by many industry directors for remakes of his films, “Many directors from the industry come to me to ask if they can make remakes of my films. I won’t be making remakes; these films are my vision and creation. I don’t want to change them; if I am working on a film project it will be new. I have a production house, now I am a producer so if other directors approach me for remakes, they are most welcome.”
He further added, “Many times the remake turns out great at time sit does not, there is risk involved. I have been offered remakes for most of my film, but I decide on bases of who is going to make it.”Films, like ‘Hero’ and ‘Karz’, have already been remade by well-known directors.
Stating the reason for Hero’s re-premiere the Khalnayak director said, ” I wanted people to see how the film made back then look on a theater screen. People watch these films again and again on a TV screen but they don’t know how it looks on big screen.”
Hero directed and produced by Suchas Ghai in 1983 was distributed by Mukta Arts Ltd. Other than Jackie Shroff the star cast included, Meenakshi Seshadri, Shammi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Shakti Kapoor and Madan Puri. The film was declared “Super Hit” on Indian Box Office marking success in Jackie Shroff career. Shroff was a judge on the magic show India’s Magic Star, broadcast on Indian channel Star One.
On work front Shroff will soon be seen in the upcoming multi starer “Thugs of Hindustan” directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya costarring, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Shashank Arora and Amitabh Bachchan.
