Dibakar Banerjee director National award winning films like ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ and Oye Lucky!! Lucky Oye!!, kept him aside from filming since 2013.
And now he is back with ‘Lust Stories’ and ‘Sandeep Aur Pinky Farrar’
Why Gap Of 3 Years For Dibakar Banerjee ?
Everybody was sure that 2013 period-detective drama ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’ will do its best.
Although Sushant Singh Rajput and Dibakar Banerjee were critically praised, but it failed at box office.
After Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, Dibakar detached himself from films temporarily.
On asking about these 3 years gap he said “It was a voluntary withdrawal. I went through long period of churning and introspection.
He further added “Also, my second daughter was born. I wanted to be there constantly with her as she turned 1, 2 and 3. So it’s been a rewarding time for me.”
After this long gap he is back with two films- Lust Stories and Sandeep Aur Pinky Farrar.
No Two Films Of Mine Are Similar
Lust Stories is a 2018 Indian anthology film which got released on 15 June on “Netflix”.
It consists of four short film segments directed by four different directors: Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar And Anurag Kashyap.
It is Jointly produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Ashi Dua.
On asking about Lust Stories Dibakar said, “This time we were exploring a new theme, a new world of emotions. I also got to work with the wonderful Manisha Koirala for the first time.”
Lust Stories is the second film of these four directors together after ‘Bombay Talkies’ which released back in 2013.
On Sandeep aur Pinky Farrar he added “We would have released the film this year. But, then it got delayed by a month. Because of this we lost our release date”.
He told ‘Now, there are too many big films coming up for the rest of the year. So we have to wait for 2019.”
Now this Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor starrer Sandeep aur Pimky Farrar will release by march next year.
These both the movies are a new innings for Dibakar Bannerjee.
He admitted “No two films of mine are similar. I make sure of that. So it’s like putting extra pressure on myself each time. When I started making Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, everything from the cast to the plot to the locations were completely new to me.”
