The arrested Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorist Danish Ahmed, who surrendered before the Handwara police, revealed that Kashmiri youth join terror outfits in Jammu and Kashmir to befriend local girls who treat them as ‘heroes’ of Jammu and Kashmir.
Upon investigation, Danish Ahmed revealed that the local boys join militancy so that they are treated as ‘heroes’ who have given their youth and life to the state, and for its freedom from the Indian rule.
However, it has not been revealed by Danish Ahmed that being treated as a ‘hero’ of Jammu and Kashmir who has given their life for the ‘freedom’ of the state is yet another trick of the terror outfits and militants to allure more local boys to join militancy in the state.
The latest revelations by Danish Ahmed on the disillusioned Kashmiri youth has brought the pointer to the question if being treated as a ‘hero’ is more of a priority for the local boys than the current condition of Jammu and Kashmir.
Danish Ahmed made the shocking revelations upon investigation by the Handwara police on Wednesday.
During the investigation, Danish Ahmed also revealed to the Handwara police that the local boys become disillusioned with ‘gun’ after joining militancy and find it extremely hard to surrender because of the life threats from the other militants and commanders of the terror outfits operational in Jammu-Kashmir.
Danish Ahmed told the police that he was in touch of the militants on social media and joined militancy on the instigation of the terrorists.
Sources said that Ahmed said that most of the militants of the terror outfit indulge in acts of extortion and thuggery in the areas of their operations in the state.
Danish Ahmed was arrested after he surrendered to the Handwara police on Wednesday, June 7. Ahmed was last seen in the funeral of slain Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Sabzar Bhat who was killed in an encounter on May 27 after a gunfight broke out between the militants and security forces.
Sabzar Bhat was among the terrorists who opened fire at the patrolling 42 Rashtriya Rifles in Anantnag, J&K. Terrorist Danish Ahmed surrendered after his parents convinced him to before the Handwara police. Sabzar Bhat was among a group of three terrorists trapped in Tral area of Pulwama district.
“Once it was learnt that Danish has joined militancy, Handwara police and 21 RR army got in touch with his parents and impressed upon them to counsel their son for surrender. His parents were convinced that if he surrenders, he would be dealt with fairly under the law. Efforts made by security forces yielded results and Danish surrendered before Handwara police and 21 RR army,” a J&K Police press release said.

The press release also said that on being questioned, Danish Ahmed revealed that he was in touch with terrorists of South Kashmir region on social media sites; and it was at their instigation that he had decided to become a terrorist. “He was tasked by Hizbul Mujahideen commanders to ‘activate’ some local youth in North Kashmir and make the region as militancy infested as the southern part of Kashmir. However, after spending a few days with the terrorists in South Kashmir, he realised the futility of joining militant ranks…Danish is being considered under the J&K Surrendered Militants Rehabilitation Policy,” the release said.
