Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone popularly known as Guru Dutt, a classic legend is although no more with us, but his memories and work has inspired many and is evergreen forever.

Today the whole country is remembering him on his 93rd Birth Anniversary. 

Guru Dutt: As An Actor, Director and Producer

This legend began his acting career with a small role as Shri Krishna in 1944 film Chaand.

In 1951 Guru started his direction work with Dev Anand’s production house Navketan.

1951 release Bazzi starring Dev Anand was the first film of Guru Dutt as a director.

This duo of Dutt and Anand gave hits like Baazi and Jaal.

In 1953 he married the playback Singer Geeta Roy Chaudhary.

In 1954 he directed, produced and Starred in the film Aar-Paar, also starring Comedian Johnny Walker.

Aar-Paar proved to be a blockbuster film.

A Classic Legend Was Born Today: Remembering 'Guru Dutt' On His Birth Anniversary!

After Aar-Paar he gave hits like C.I.D, Pyaasa, Mr. and Mrs. 55 and Sailaab.

Though his 1959 film Kaagaz Ke Phool failed at Box Office but he came back with a big hit Chaudhvin Ka Chaand in 1960.

The Title track of the film claimed high rewards and appreciation.

His film Saahib Biwi Aur Ghulaam won  Filmfare Best Director’s award for the director Abrar Alvi. The film starred Tragedy Queen Meena Kumari, Waheeda Rehman, Rehman and Guru Dutt.

Rewards and Success

His film Pyaasa gained the position as one of the best film among 100 films in the Time Magazine.

A post Stamp was released to honour and remember him by India Post in 2004.

Guru Dutt’s Last Days

His last film was Saanjh Aur Savera opposite Meena Kumari, directed By Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

He was also working as an actor in the film Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayenge, but later after his death the lead was given to Dharmendra.

Guru was found died at his apartment in 1964.
