Kristina O’Hara of Northern Ireland was defeated by Mary in a unified 5:0 verdict in the competition.

“You go girl,” wrote Akshay Kumar on Twitter along with a picture of Mary Kom while Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor, who has produced films such as The Dirty Picture and Half Girlfriend, retweeted a news report on Mary’s win and wrote “Respect.” Singer Sophie Choudry posted a picture of the boxer and described her as an “absolute legend.” Singer and Union Minister Babul Supriyo, Huma Qureshi and Bigg Boss 10 winner Manveer Gurjar also applauded Mary Kom on Twitter.

She is fondly known as Magnificent Mary while her life has also been presented on celluloid as filmmaker Omung Kumar made her biopic in 2014 and cast Priyanka Chopra in the lead role.
