Bollywood producer Prerna Arora has reportedly been taken into custody by Economic Offences Wing (EOW) officials of the Crime Branch on Friday.
Prerna Arora was arrested over her alleged involvement in a fraud of Rs 16 crore. “Film producer Prerna Arora was arrested yesterday by Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai Police in connection with an alleged fraud of Rs 16 crore,” read the tweet by ANI.
Prerna who runs the production house KriArj entertainment has produced many critically acclaimed films such as Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Rustom and PadMan among others. This is not the first time that Prerna courted controversy as she has been embroiled in many spats which have often ended in courts. A few months back, a company called Padma Ispat had accused her company of fraud
They had alleged that the production house was involved in a monetary fraud of a whopping amount of Rs. 50 crores. Also, a few months back, John Abraham, director of JA Entertainment had also filed not one but three criminal complaints against Arora and her company for cheating, breach of trust, defamation and offenses committed under the IT act. For the unversed, John and Arora had earlier collaborated to co-produce John Abraham and Diana Penty starrer Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran. But the battle began when Abraham terminated its contract with Kriarj and announced a new release date for the movie.
After the legal battle with John, Arora had a legal tussle with Kedarnath director and producer Abhishek Kapoor. For the uninitiated, the disputed started when Prernaa accused director Abhishek Kapoor of excessive wastage of resources during the shoot of the film and Kapoor countered the claim by levelling an allegation of non-payment of dues against her production house. Later, Ronnie Screwvala took over the reins from KriArj.
Having produced films like Rustom, Toilet Ek Prem Katha, PadMan and Pari among others, Prernaa has been embroiled in some controversies in the past few months.
The High Court had reportedly directed the cops to take action against the producer after Puja Films filed an FIR in July. The report states that multiple complaints were filed against Prernaa by several entities she and her company had professional collaborations with. The report further added that while Prernaa had reached consensus with the complainant parties, she failed on the terms. She is reportedly expected to be tried in High Court for Contempt of Court next week
