Legengary actor Naseeruddin Shah turns 67 !

Naseeruddin Shah, one of the most well-known actors in India, turns 67 today. He is one actor whose life can actually be a made into a film. One can easily conclude that he is another living legend of the industry by looking at his life.  The kind of films he does, the personal life he’s had makes him a true star.

Furthermore, some bits from his roles have actually portrayed segments from his own life (his role in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara,). Naseeruddin’s career caught up well with his talents as a young actor.

But a strange personal life, where he married a 36-year-old at the fickle age of 19.

Furthermore, he separated with her after a year, and paid her a huge alimony over 12 years. Anyway, the actor has appeared in a number of beautiful films, and plays, proving his mettle in Bollywood, art cinema, theatre, Mollywood, and even internationally.

Best five films:

So on the occasion of the actor’s 67th birthday today, we take a look at five of the best films he’s given character to.

In no particular order, here they are:

Ijaazat

Of reunion after a long separation, Ijaazat is a tale of love, time and memory. Furthermore, it is one of the most poetic love stories ever written by Gulzaar. The story follows the characters of Naseeruddin and Rekha as they reminisce about the past upon an incidental meet at a railway station.

Sarfarosh

Naseeruddin Shah seems to have a way with Urdu poetry. The way he recites it is music to ears. In Sarfarosh, Shah played a poet and a terrorist in hiding. He was eerily compelling in mixing charm and malice together. Aamir Khan might have been the lead in Sarfarosh, but it was Naseeruddin who actually stole the show.

Masoom

A family man (Naseeruddin) whose everyday domestic life is turned upside down when he discovers that he has an illegitimate child from a past affair. When the boy’s mother dies he is sent to live with his father. A sea of emotions.

A Wednesday

A retired police commissioner (Anupam Kher) recounts the most memorable case of his career. Which although was never filed, it haunts him to this day wherein he was informed about a bomb scare in Mumbai. Another career defining performance for Naseeruddin Shah.

Dedh Ishqiya

Shah reprised his Ishqiya role in this film and delivered one of the best performances in recent times. It was a delight to hear the elegant, poetic couplets coming out of his paan stained mouth along with his sardonic smile.
