Ram Gopal Verma has backed actress Urmila Matondkar after Kangana Ranaut’s ‘soft porn star’ jibe at ‘Satya’ actress.
Filmmaker and Producer Ram Gopal Verma has backed actress Urmila Matondkar on Thursday at the time when Kangana Ranaut called Urmila as a soft porn star and also said that she doesn’t know how to act in front of the camera. The critically acclaimed filmmaker in his tweet said that Urmila has left no doubt of her ‘versatile talent’ by taking up diverse and complex roles.
Sharing the news interview of Kangana Ranaut on his Twitter timeline, Verma wrote, “Not wanting to get into slanging matches with anyone, I believe that @UrmilaMatondkar has more than proved her versatile talent in enacting such diversely complex roles as in RANGEELA,SATYA,KAUN,BHOOT,EK HASEENA THI etc .”
Ram Gopal Verma has collaborated with Urmila Matondkar in a number of films including ‘Rangeela’, ‘Daud’, ‘Satya’, ‘Mast’ and ‘Bhoot’. In his book ‘Guns & Thighs’, Verma had written that he was ‘mesmerised’ by Urmila’s beauty and called her ‘divine’.
The spat between Urmila Matondkar and Kangana Ranaut started when Urmila in an interview asked Kangana to introspect about the drug culture in her home state of Himachal Pradesh before levelling allegations against Maharashtra and Mumbai’s film industry. Kangana had previously said that 99% of the film industry has been exposed to drugs.
After that, Kangana launched a personal attack on Urmila in a news interview on Wednesday by calling Urmila is a ‘soft porn actor’ who is ‘not known for her acting’.
Several members of the film fraternity, including Farah Khan Ali, Swara Bhasker, Anubhav Sinha and Pooja Bhatt tweeted in support of Urmila after Kangana’s personal attack.
