In this sequence, today 25th November, which is celebrated as the International Day around the world, Oxfam India and other civil institutions did number of activities to enhance gender sensitivities within the students of the schools in Lucknow to the end of Violence against Women. Oxfam India is India’s representation with Oxfam International, which works in over 110 countries on issues related to people living in poverty and helping them take control of their rights.
The program named “Saajhi Voja Saajee Parvaz” was organised in the lawn of Sangeet Natak Akademi from 10 AM to 1.30 PM. 1, 500 college students in Lucknow Stood up and Raised their voice for Women and Girl child’s betterment

The cases of child marriage and women discrimination in UP have increased since years. According to 2011 census, more than 28 lakh of children between 10-19 years have become victims of child marriage, whereas out of 20 lakh minor girls, 70 have become victim of child marriage.
UP Tourism minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi interacted with the students and shared her message for Women Empowerment at the Oxfam and Dastak Manch Youth Festival today.
Oxfam India’s CEO Nisha Agarwal, addreses the youth and told that Oxfam India’s work on gender awareness, aims to create a shift in the perceptions, attitudes, and behaviour of women and men. Incorporating gender issues in every aspect of its work is one of Oxfam India’s priorities. She told,” The status of women all over the world is a cause for grave concern. Women in all societies experience various forms of discrimination and oppression. Women are singled out for one form of oppression or the other. In all societies men are superior to women.”
Scientist and poet, Saman Habib and Faiz Ahmed Faiz actively supported the initiative, through his powerful poem on gender violence.
Vernika Kundu, who stood up against VIP stalkers in Chandigarh and fought against gender equality in her inspirational speech, said “From sexual harassment to child marriage or ‘honour killing’, violence devastates the lives of millions of women and girls around the world and fractures communities. It is both a cause and a consequence of women’s poverty. My parents never raised me as a girl, simply as a human!” used her voice to raise awareness among the youth!

This consequential issue was displayed and demonstrated in an interesting manner with poetry – music, musical and multimedia theater by expert artists in the program so that youth can be aware of creative partnerships.
