OnePlus 5T kept their promise to release the Android Oreo Open Beta build ROM for OnePlus 5 in November

The company at the OnePlus 5T launch earlier this month promised that it would release the Android Oreo Open Beta build ROM for OnePlus 5 in November. Last week, OnePlus 3 and 3T owners also got the Android 8.0 Oreo updates on their devices. OnePlus 5 owners can download the first Open Beta build based on Android 8.0 Oreo. This is the Open Beta for the OnePlus 5, which users can manually download on the devices.

David Y, OnePlus community member at a OnePlus user forum, said that,”We are super excited to announce that we are ready to kick off the Open Beta Program for the OnePlus 5 today! The first Open Beta build based on Android 8.0 for the OnePlus 5 is available for download now”.

He further adds up the latest features of this update that it includes an upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo, which adds features like Picture-in-Picture (PiP) and notification channels, as well as OnePlus’ Parallel Apps. The update also include features such as a Quick Settings design, Auto-fill, updated security patch for October, and Smart text selection. However, you will also find a lot of small touches to enhance the user experience on the device.Given this a beta software and not a stable version, it’s likely to be full of bugs. If that’s not an issue with you, head over to the company’s forum post and download the Open beta build. Also, make sure you read all the instructions before you download the beta software on the phone.

OnePlus 5, the first 2017 flagship from the Chinese smartphone firm, on Saturday received its first Android 8.0 Oreo based Open Beta build. With it, the company has also announced the start of its Open Beta programme for the OnePlus 5. Notably, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones launched in 2016 started receiving their stable Android 8.0 Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.0 builds last week. In the meanwhile, a purported Oreo-based Open Beta 2 build for the OnePlus 5 has leaked, pointing to the inclusion of the Face Unlock feature that was first unveiled for the OnePlus 5T earlier this month.

Like previous Open Beta builds from OnePlus, the Oreo-based build for the OnePlus 5 needs to be flashed onto the smartphone, requiring users to back up their devices as all data will be lost in the process. Users can follow the official OnePlus flashing guide for instructions, and can download the ROM from here for flashing. To recall, OnePlus has promised that the stable Oreo update for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will be rolled out in Q1 2018, so if you are impatient to use Oreo on your device, your best bet is the Open Beta – however, do note that it is a beta build, and will have bugs that need to be ironed out.

The OnePlus 5T Android 8.0 Oreo-based build’s change log has been posted on the company’s forum, and it contains Oreo features such as Picture-in-Picture, Auto-fill, Smart text selection, and a new Quick Settings design. It also brings along the October Android security patch. OnePlus 5 specific additions include Parallel Apps, Notification Dots for the OnePlus launcher, a new app folder design, and the ability to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus.

OnePlus 5 has been discontinued in favor of the latest flagship OnePlus 5, which is now available for purchase in India. OnePlus 5T with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage costs Rs 32,999. The top-tier model with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 37,999.
