Twitter Bot and Troll Twitter Accounts Have Usernames that end in 8 Random Digits Very interesting Data Analysis on Twitter
A Data Scientist (@conspirator0) did some deep dives on data investigation of patterns in Twitter Troll accounts. What he discovered is rather fascinating:
Characteristics Of Fake Twitter Followers
- We studied a Twitter Handle of a Uttar Pradesh Minister (name Withheld ) who initially said that the twitter account would be used for solving public issues.
- When the real handles tweeting for help ,did not get any response , we did a small study on that handle’s behavior.
These are the Characteristics we found :
- More than 40% handles had not tweeted more than 30 tweets in their age.
- More than 85% handles had a low tweet counts.Perhaps they tried Twitter and gave it up?
- Just 4.8% handles seems active on Twitter . Shocking stats.
Coming on Followers,what we discovered is rather fascinating:
- The above image reveals that the pattern which was used during Brexit and US Elections too.
- NAME and 8 digit random number for creating the Twitter Handles
- Similar patterns were noticed in this Minister’s Handle too.
- A random Study out of approx 3200 Handles following. we found more than 1734 handles having the pattern as described by @conspirator0
- Most of the handles were made between May 2017 till Spet 2017.
- Replies by the Ministry handles were also mostly to the Bots and Fake handles.
