Kite string or “manjha” is creating a lot of hindrance in the smooth functioning of Lucknow Metro. On Thursday it was once again reported that a long steel wire with sharp hooks ,tripped in overhead power supply of metro causing a short circuit.
Use of wires despite of being banned:
- The running of LMRC trains were affected on Thursday at 04:34 PM due to tripping of Overhead Traction Power supply by kite.
- After the tripping, the affected site was closely examined and it was found
- that kites being used in near by area have a attached long steel wire knit
- like a barbed wire with very sharp hook at every six inches to cut the thread of other kites.
- This long steel wire caused short-circuiting of live 25000 volt OHE SUPPLY.
- Furthermore, this steel wire of about two meter long with sharp hook has
- emerged as alternative to Chinese string (manjha) in the city among kite lovers.
- Consequently it is more dangerous than Chinese manjha to the persons moving on road.
- It should be noted that Hon’ble High Court of Judicature at Allahabad has
- banned sale of Chinese manjha in Uttar Pradesh in November 2015.
- The action was taken against a PIL due to several incidences of passengers
- getting severely injured due to neck and eye injury and injury to birds & animals.
- Subsequently National Green Tribunal has also banned sales of Chinese manjha for some period.
- In past such power tripping have been reported by Media for Indian
- Railways as well as by Power Transmission Companies where power supply lines have tripped.
- Lucknow Metro lodged a FIR with Police against unknown person.
- The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation has also requested the residents of Lucknow not to use barbed steel wire for kite flying especially toward metro alignments.
